The Speer YMCA held its grand opening this past week on December 13th to unveil the new innovative campus shared with Mangrove Bay Middle School. Designed as a joint venture between WJ Architects and Harvard Jolly, and constructed by Creative Contractors, this project is the first of its kind in our region. David Jezek, President and CEO of YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg says, “We talk about a lot about organizations going on trips elsewhere to find unique projects. I can guarantee people are going to come from all across the country to see what we created here, and we will be proud to share.”
The Speer YMCA offers members a full fitness center with cardio and strength equipment, and an outdoor aquatics area with a splash pad and 25-yard lap pool. Shared spaces include the media center, dining hall, sports track and a gym.
The magnet middle school campus is still being constructed and is expected to welcome 6th through 8th grade students for the 2024/25 academic year.
