St. Petersburg, FL
Childs Park YMCA serves a neighborhood with the highest density of children per capita in the city of St. Petersburg. The main program was a “Y” achievers after school program to provide tutoring and mentorship. To serve this purpose the building contains program rooms, computer lab, offices, warming kitchen, large multipurpose room, police substation, satellite library, and an office for the existing Rattler organization. The center also provides space for large community activities and meetings. The design of the building sought to recognize and reflect the adjacent residential neighborhood while still providing a recognizable civic presence.
