Doral Legacy Park
Doral, FL
The Story
Doral Legacy Park is an 18-acre recreational park and two-story 38,280 S.F. LEED Silver recreation building that will provide the City of Doral with a vibrant social and active space that fosters community development while respecting the boundaries of the residential communities that surround the park.
The park which is divided into two unequal areas by a city street is one of the site’s most challenging conditions. A covered pedestrian bridge was designed as an active and passive strategy to take advantage of this potential issue. The bridge extends from the recreational building and provides a safe passage above a busy city avenue. It also doubles as a city gateway that defines the northern boundary of the city.
The recreation program provides a variety of indoor and outdoor opportunities for active and passive recreational activities for all ages. The recreation center includes a double indoor basketball gymnasium and exercise track, community/cultural room with seating capacity for 200 people, a senior room, arts and craft room, teen room, aerobics/dance room, multi-purpose room, and conference room. Park amenities include an outdoor theater, (2) artificial turf athletic fields, baseball/softball field, (5) tennis courts, (3) basketball courts, (2) sand volley ball courts, playground, splash pad, concession building and picnic shade structures.
