On April 16, the City of Largo hosted a commencement ceremony marking the ground breaking of the new Largo Fire Station 39. The event had participants from the Largo community, city officials, Fire Rescue staff, contractor Wharton-Smith, Inc., and WJA for this exciting milestone.
The new fire station is 10,347 sf with three bays and eight dorm rooms, and is efficiently designed with a primary focus on firefighter health and safety. Utilizing a zone design approach, the station features specialized gear storage and cleaning facilities, prioritizing cancer prevention measures. Enhanced living quarters, a day room, and a fitness center were integrated into the design, along with the use of sustainable and durable materials, including solar panels aimed to offset the Duke Energy cost and EV charging. The station is expected to be open for operation in April 2025.
In collaboration with the City of Largo, WJA has conceptualized this station as a prototype for future stations across the city. Over the next five years, plans include the reconstruction of three additional stations, underscoring a dedication to modernization and community safety.
