WJA designed the plans to renovate the former Ed White Hospital building in St. Petersburg into affordable housing for seniors and administrative offices for the St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA). The project took a step forward with the approval of a $1 million grant. Grant assistance was provided by WJA. The grant, provided by the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York (FHLBNY), brings SPHA closer to realizing the $29 million redevelopment project. SPHA is the sole recipient in Florida among the $42 million in subsidies allocated to qualified affordable housing initiatives across nine U.S. states and territories this year.
The project is a full building interior renovation with exterior envelope improvements of the previous Edward White Hospital building in St. Petersburg, FL. The renovation will transform this multi-level 6-story building (totaling 130,766 SF) into new affordable senior housing for 71 units with amenities amenities such as a fitness room, two computer labs, two multi-purpose rooms, catering kitchen, laundry in-unit, mailroom, bicycle storage, and property management offices. Half of the ground floor will also become the home to SPHA’s primary Administration Offices and offer 1,939 sf of leasable office space.
